Christiaan Triebert (formerly Bellingcat, now The New York Times) shows how to check facts and gather information using open sources on the internet and social media.
Learn how to use websites, databases, discussion platforms, search engines, satellite images and Google Street View to track people, uncover connections, reconstruct events and check the locations of photos and videos.
For example, look for the victims of a scammer, the whereabouts of a suspect, the financiers of a militant movement or the members of an obscure action group. Or determine where a certain photo was taken (for example, use the database of manhole covers; it really exists!).
Christiaan Triebert not only gives tips and tricks, but also puts you to work during the workshop, so bring your laptop.
