Mastering editorial planning: lessons from Desk-Net

The days when newspapers were printed once a day are far behind us. Today, journalists write for online publications, newsletters and social media. They produce podcasts, videos, explainers and all sorts of different combinations of these.

As a journalist and editorial manager, how do you ensure that all these great productions are created at the right time and reach the right audience?

At Mediahuis, several editorial departments including NRC, Aachener Zeitung and Luxemburger Wort use the Desk-Net planning tool for this purpose. In this inspirational session, Amien Idries, deputy editor-in-chief at the Aachener Zeitung, talks about the importance of planning editorial productions and uses practical examples to show how news managers and individual journalists can make the most of Desk-Net.

Location: Club 9
Time(s): 14:15 - 15:05
Speaker(s): Amien Idries
Language: ENG
Type: Inspirational session
Theme: Future Newsrooms

Amien Idries got his first taste of the media industry as a teenager (delivering newspapers). After that, he had no contact with the media industry for a long time while he worked as an intensive care nurse and studied political science in Aachen.

He joined Medienhaus Aachen in 2010 as a journalistic trainee, later becoming a political editor. In 2018, he was appointed deputy editor-in-chief of the Aachener Zeitung. He is interested in the political and social impacts of the internet and AI, the workflows and processes of the newsroom and of course change management (although it's a buzzword). He believes that it is essential for the newsrooms to manage the most valuable resource they have more wisely: the precious time of the smart people who work there.
